Engaging in the process of growing food is a great way to develop good eating habits that last. It is also a fun exercise that kids love. Little Veggie Crates from the Little Veggie Patch Co. are the perfect starting point. Cost effective and easy to install, the Little Veggie Crates are recycled from Victorian apple growers. Many are now living second lives as ‘No-Dig’ gardens in Melbourne Schools and Kindergartens.

What some of our clients have said…

Early Learners Pre-School – Newport
We just wanted to let you know that we love our veggie & herb crates! We had one of our dad’s come in and help put all the mulch and plants in. We have planted lots of vegetables and we also have lots of herbs (the smelliest one we have is the curry plant!!) We planted some snow peas and they have already grown lots and lots! Our next project is to make a scarecrow so the birds are frightened away.

Civic Kindergarten – Middle Park
” I had been wanting to bring the ‘magic’ of growing vegetables to the children for some time, however the practicalities of setting up a suitable garden bed was proving too daunting and time-consuming to organise. A ‘the little veggie patch’ postcard arrived in the mail and I rang Fabian -and my ideas suddenly sprang to life! He very quickly organised the delivery of two large and beautiful wooden apple crates and helped suggest the best possible siting for them. He and Mat cheerfully filled the crates with layers of lovely organic material – all ready for planting with the children! So far the children have planted their winter crop of beetroot, radishes, carrots and beans, as well as mint and lettuces and they measure the shoots to see how much they’ve grown! I have noticed children like to gather around the crates in small groups, and have a dig in the soiland talk about what they see happening- and it’s everyone’s favourite job to give the plants a drink with the spray bottles. We are all looking forward to sharing the spoils of our crop in the coming weeks. All aspects of our program have certainly been enriched by having these easy and beautiful crates as a focus in the children’s garden.”

Katandra School – Ormond
The Veggie crates have allowed us to integrate science and healthy eating into our school curriculum in a very hands on and practical way. This is particularly valuable considering the learning needs of our students. The crates are simple to set up and unlike other vegetable gardens they have the exibility to be placed on dierent surfaces around our small school. Thank you for your great product and customer service.

Malvern Memorial Kinda – Armadale
Mat and Fab from Veggie Patch Company were very helpful and professional when assisting Malvern Memorial Kindergarten to set up our veggie garden. The children are loving the experience of learning how to plant, nurture and grow their own vegetables and we are sure it will have a lasting impact on them.
