A little food, a little fun, a little soul, a little sun, a little green, a little grow, The Little Veggie Patch Co.
Pop Up Patch is The Little Veggie Patch Co’s city backyard. We have transformed what was once an unused car park into a community gardening paradise. Over 140 veggie crates have been installed on the site which are rented by Pop Up Patch (PUP) members – residents, restaurants and businesses – who tend to the gardens and enjoy the enviable benefits (including 360° views of Melbourne’s iconic skyline!)
Pop Up Patch is also open to the public Friday to Sunday with a mini LVPC shop on site. While the main focus is on growing food, PUP is an urban oasis where you can escape the hustle and bustle of city life. We hold special members’ events, BBQs, movie nights and table-tennis comps and when the weather cools down we warm up with a hearty bowl of soup, prepared straight from the gardens!
Pop Up Patch is also an education centre, hosting a range of food, gardening and kids’ workshops that cater for all skill sets. These include Edible Gardening for Beginners, Scarecrow Making and Pickling Workshops. Pop Up Patch is also available to hire for events and celebrations. Head on over to our Events page for more information.
We now have a cafe on the site - serving Premises coffee - and, of course, recycle all the waste generated to our giant worm farm that then goes towards growing more produce. Oh, how the wheels of the bus go round and round!
Pop Up Patch is a place for community and learning – for people to gather, grow, share and celebrate the joy of food. Please come and visit, we’d love you to be a part of it.
Pop Up Patch Membership
If you want to become a member of PUP you need to be in the mood for good food and good times! There is so much more to PUP than just growing produce, it’s like a membership to any club: we hold special member’s events and get-togethers, and generally encourage you to enjoy the space. How involved you want to be is up to you; you may just want to plot along and keep to yourself, and we’re fine with that too!
Memberships are $25 a week ($108 a month). Price includes a fully prepared little veggie crate and all the tools and know-how needed to garden right, along with a selection of seasonal seeds and seedlings when required. If you want to increase your real estate, extra patches are available for a further $20/week.
If you’d like to become a member please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call The Nursery on 03 9531 5594 for further details.
Open Day on Sunday, June the 5th, 1-4pm. Drinks, food, games and general good times. All welcome.
PUP is located on Russell Court (the continuation of Russell St after crossing Flinders St) behind Fed Square. When you get end of Russell Court (at the roundabout) look left - there is the entrance to the car park and on the right, the entrance to Pop Up Patch.
Winter Hours (June - August)
Shop Opening Hours, Friday to Sunday 10:00am – 4:00pm
We are now serving coffee (weekends only) and cold drinks at our cafe - Mister Patch - where we also have a mini LVPC shop from which you can buy our seeds, books and tools and generally find ways to get your hands dirty.
There is plenty of parking next door in the Fed Square car park and limited street parking on Flinders and Russell Streets, however being located in the middle of Melbourne’s CBD, PUP is easily accessible by public transport, or even better, bike.
