Laneway Foraging

Waves of immigration have brought not only a richness to Australian culinary culture, but the same claim could also be leveled at its laneways.  Every season it is easy to find fat fruit hanging clumsily over fences or, even worse, untouched and spoiled on the ground.  Should this food be considered public domain, or does private property extend beyond the fence line?
