oh mon dieu have you never cooked with Tarragon? Tarragon is one of the four canonical herbs of French cooking (it’s basically a plant deity) and the main flavouring component of Béarnaise sauce. French Tarragon is the main culinary variety that is used in the kitchen and the best way to plant it is to knock on your neighbours door who has tarragon and divide the plant, as it requires division every few years. That way when you have your own Tarragon you will become the generous neighbour offering up plants to divide, that or increase your own backyard Tarragon empire.
PLANTING
Can grow from cuttings. Or if growing from seed, scatter a few seeds along a shallow trench line and water in. Keep moist, not wet, until the seeds have germinated.
WATERING
In ground: Water daily for the first 4 weeks and 3-4 times a week in the absence of rainfall thereafter.
In Pots: Water daily, in the absence of rainfall, for the entirety of the warm season, and then cut back to watering every second day during the cooler times of the year.
MAINTENANCE
Tarragon requires very little maintenance, however the plant should be divided every few years. If planted in pots make sure you keep it well-watered as they tend to dry out. Regularly harvesting encourages growth.
HARVESTING
Pick as you need for a perpetual harvest, or if drying cut back a larger bunch and tie up to dry with twine.
TIP
Divide plants every few years.
